Jeannine Budelmann briefs Members of the state parliament of North Rhine Westphalia on Industry 4.0

Last Saturday Jeannine Budelmann was invited by the working committee for economy of the state of North Rhine Westphalia where she informed local and regional politicians of the Green Party about the opportunities and obstacles of Industry 4.0. She stated that small and medium-sized companies need to be supported and tangible examples need to be made in order to show how Industry 4.0 can improve internal processes. Furthermore, Jeannine Budelmann emphasized that digitization does not only mean broadband expansion. Differences between the industrial structures of Germany and the USA were discussed as well. The managing director of Budelmann Elektronik emphasized that Germany as a strong industrial nation cannot afford to neglect digitization. However, mechanical engineering and the development of complex electronics need to be promoted as well. To really fill Industry 4.0 with content, not only “4.0” is crucial, but “Industry”. In the following panel discussion, it became evident that the increasing interlinking of industrial production facilities has the potential to create and secure high-quality workplaces. However, investing in digital education is of the utmost importance and should already start in school to provide students with a future-oriented education.
